Installing and updating Notes Tab

Notes Tab comes in two flavors: the Chrome Web Store build, which the store keeps up to date for you, and the beta channel, which delivers newer builds you load yourself. This page covers how each is updated.

If you installed Notes Tab from the Chrome Web Store, Chrome updates it automatically. Store builds do not include the in-app beta updater, so Settings has no beta section: there is nothing to do here.

Beta builds are published outside the store and offered from inside Settings. When a build newer than the one you are running is available, an Update available badge and a Download beta zip button appear in Settings.

To install a beta build:

  1. Click Download beta zip in Settings and unzip the downloaded file.
  2. Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked and pick the unzipped folder.

Notes Tab checks for a newer beta each time you open Settings and only shows the section when one is actually available, so you are never prompted to reinstall the version you already have.

Notes live in your browser’s local storage, separate from the extension files, so updating or reinstalling Notes Tab does not touch them. If you want an extra copy, use Export to file in Settings before updating (see Settings and your workspace).
